The model in this portrait is a friend who works as a hairdresser during the day and moonlights as a drag queen (“Thursday”) at weekends. Thursday’s make up and outfits are a work of art in their own right, taking her hours to perfect, and this painting was produced using thickly layered oil to create a deep dark effect.
