This painting was created over six weeks with a retired fisherman sitting as my model. The subject had a rather scowling look about him, however when he spoke his expression changed instantly to reveal a jovial and humorous personality. I built the layers of oil gradually to give depth to the skin and invoke likeness. The hat was kept simple to off-set his complexion.
